Dennis has lived most of his life in the San Fernando Valley, but briefly lived in Kansas City for 8 years to be near his grandchildren. While in Kansas City, he volunteered at a church serving hot meals. In the winter he volunteered on an outreach van that provided basic medical care and warm clothing. Dennis moved from Kansas City to Moorpark four years ago, and began actively looking for local volunteer opportunities. He began volunteering at the Samaritan Center as a grocery driver last summer.
Sadly, Dennis has a son who struggles with mental health issues and drug addiction. His son has spent the last 25 years living on the street, in medical facilities, or when medication compliant living with Dennis. Volunteering at the Samaritan Center hits close to home with Dennis as some of our clients also struggle with mental health and drug addiction. Dennis is impressed with the variety of services offered by the Samaritan Center and the exceptionally friendly and non-judgmental interactions with clients.
As a grocery driver, Dennis drives to local grocery stores to pick up food for our pantry and drop off to the Samaritan Center. It can be heavy work but Dennis enjoys the teamwork atmosphere at the Center. When not volunteering, he likes to help out at his church and he also has been riding and sport touring motorcycles for 60 years! We thank you, Dennis, for all of your hard work, dedication, and support at the Samaritan Center!
