Meet "Smarty Marty!" "Smarty Marty" is this month's Client Feature at the Samaritan Center!

About eight months ago, "Smarty Marty" first learned about the Samaritan Center through a local church. While he prefers to keep his personal journey private, he was eager to share what the Samaritan Center has meant to him.

"Smarty Marty" has traveled to many places throughout his life and says he finds beauty and something unique everywhere he goes. These days, he and his service dog, Allison, are living out of his vehicle. Allison has been by his side for the past two years, and "Smarty Marty" says she is his everything.

"She brings me peace," he shared. "She puts a smile on everyone's face."

Since coming to the Samaritan Center, "Smarty Marty" has found more than just resources. He regularly enjoys hot meals, showers, and dog food for Allison. The Samaritan Center also provided Allison with a service vest and leash. "Smarty Marty" has worked with his case manager, receiving assistance with a vehicle smog check, and when his car was temporarily impounded, he was provided with bus passes to help him get where he needed to go during a very difficult time. He described that experience as turbulent because his sense of safety was suddenly taken away.

Recently, Allison experienced a medical emergency that left "Smarty Marty" understandably worried. He came to the Samaritan Center looking for help. Together, Marketing and Administrative Coordinator Nani and Volunteer Coordinator Diane contacted local veterinary clinics in search of assistance. Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Novy and the team at Valley Veterinary Clinic, along with support from other local veterinary professionals, Allison received the care she needed at no cost. Thankfully, she is doing well.

"Smarty Marty" is deeply grateful to everyone who stepped in to help Allison. He also speaks highly of the Samaritan Center team.

"For everything I've ever asked for help with, I've been acknowledged and supported," "Smarty Marty" said. "If you're ever in need, come to the Samaritan Center. You'll meet the friendliest staff who will help you with what you need."

At "Smarty Marty's" request, we are honoring his privacy by not sharing his photograph. Instead, he wanted to proudly introduce everyone to Allison, his beloved service dog and constant companion.

Thank you for sharing your story, "Smarty Marty!"
