Meet Steve! Steve is our Monthly Client Feature at the Samaritan Center!
Originally from Long Island, New York, Steve came to California in 1978 in search of a new beginning. Over the years, he experienced homelessness on and off and often relied on campsites and tents in encampments to get by.
Steve first heard about the Samaritan Center 26 years ago through community member’s recommendations. Since then, the Center has been his "home base"—a place where he could access and utilize essential services like showers, laundry, a mailing address, and the food pantry. He also stayed in the PADS winter shelter program during the colder months, which he described as a positive experience.
Recently, Steve received life-changing news: he was accepted into a permanent supportive housing program and is no longer experiencing homelessness! He now has a place to call home and has been happily adjusting to his new space for the past month. Even now, Steve continues to give back by volunteering his time to landscape and trim the Center’s grounds and trees. Although, a photo of Steve is not featured, please see the photo features of the wonderful work he has put in on the property.
To others facing homelessness, Steve offers this encouragement: “Think of better days in the future and do whatever you can to make it happen.”
Steve is still in need of furniture to help furnish his new home. If you’re able to contribute, please reach out to us at info@samcentersv.org — every bit of support makes a difference.
Thank you for sharing your story and for all the hard work, Steve!
