This week, our community is taking part in the annual Point in Time Homeless Count, a vital effort to better understand the number of individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The data collected through this count helps identify critical needs and ensures that appropriate services and resources can be planned, funded, and delivered where they are needed most.

Our staff participated by meeting one on one with clients to gather information, distribute hygiene kits, and offer essential supplies and clothing. These conversations are an important opportunity not only to collect data, but also to connect with individuals and provide immediate support.

As part of this effort, we spoke with Heidi, a client currently experiencing homelessness and receiving services at the Samaritan Center. Heidi shared that she was aware of the Point in Time Count and even approached a volunteer to make sure she could participate. She emphasized how vital the services at the Samaritan Center are and the significant impact they have on the unhoused community. Heidi expressed how access to case management, showers, and basic resources can help individuals begin to better themselves and regain stability.

Heidi also shared that her experience participating in the Point in Time Count was very positive. She made a conscious effort to provide as much accurate information as possible, recognizing how important reliable data is in helping the community understand and respond to homelessness.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, Heidi!
